anyone comes to me without hating his own father and mother and wife and
children and brother and sisters, and his very life too, he cannot be a
disciple of mine.
the persons called by God
to his special work
have had to leave home.
This was certainly true of
Abraham, Joseph, Moses and Ruth.
To be sure
leaving home for these four
implied more than a physical transfer
from one place to another.
leaving a familiar context of life
with its own pattern of thinking,
traditional values and viewpoints.
going over to
a new mode of life and thought.
No less a break
with one's environment
is expected today of the person
called to God's work.
Have you left home?
